Reflexology Lymph Drainage                                       Jan 2019

I spent last weekend on a course at The Christie’s Manchester, and what a fabulous course it was!

Reflexology Lymph Drainage (RLD) was researched and developed by Sally Kay a multi award winning practitioner, tutor and researcher.

The course focused primarily on reducing secondary lymphoedema, a swelling in the arm following treatment for breast cancer but Clinical experience and further evidence from a growing body of case studies suggests that RLD maybe useful with other conditions such as Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, Rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory auto-immune disorders, pregnancy, and premenstrual fluid retention.

If you want to have a look at Sally’s work, follow the link where you will also find research abstracts and if you look in the gallery, prepare to be amazed by the photographs.

I can use RLD as a stand-alone treatment or I can incorporate it into my treatment plans, either way it is another tool in my box and one that I am thrilled about. Reflexology just keeps on surprising me every day!

How many treatments will i need?                              January 2019

This is one of the most frequently asked questions.

It may be that you have just come for some relaxation and that is good, i always encourage self care. However for long term conditions or periods of prolonged stress I will always suggest weekly treatments for around 5 or 6 weeks for the best results.

When we get to this point you will know if it is helping you or not and we can decide whether it would be beneficial for you to come back for maintenance treatments, once a fortnight/every 3 weeks/once a month or as and when you feel is necessary.

Things to take into consideration:

  • The Clients needs? What have they come for? What are they hoping to get out of it
  • How long the Client has been suffering with a condition
  • I also bear in mind the client’s financial priorities and will try and come up will a plan that will work best for you. I do not push anybody to come back for a lengthy treatment plan, you are free to stop whenever you want, I only offer guidelines.
  • If you want some help on your journey to conception, again, there would be lots to consider and this would be discussed at the initial appointment or beforehand.

It also very much depends on the response you have to the treatment. Reflexology is not going to work for everybody, some people won’t take to it, or the therapist, and there are also people who have felt the benefits after just one session.

A good reflexologist will never diagnose an illness or claim to cure. Reflexology is a complementary therapy, designed to help you on your journey of self-care, encouraging a more natural approach. We also treat the person and not the condition and our aim is to help maintain a state of Homeostasis, which basically means, everything in balance and working as it should.

During the first session, after going through the consultation form, (this includes, medical history & any medication taken). A thorough investigatory session will be given on the feet. During this time, you can lie back, close your eyes and relax or I can talk you through what I am doing, and which part of the foot corresponds to what part of the body. This is your decision, I will however ask you to let me know of any areas that feel more tender than others, this will help me to formulate a treatment plan that is bespoke to you, ready for your next visit.

Please do come and try it, it is amazing! Biased I know!

P.S.  If you have any private health care insurance, do check your policy, you may be able to claim back half or more of your treatment costs.

Just recently I have been asking myself a few questions?

What is my value? What is my worth?

What do I give to my clients?

What is my uniqueness?

How do I encourage people to try this wonderful therapy?

I sat for hours, days even! looking for the right words!

Quite a fete to accomplish!

Eventually I had a conversation with my 80-year-old mum, and asked her, what she thought my qualities were?

Well, after she mentioned that she likes the purple ones!    She said to me, "well, you are very caring aren't you, you like to help people".  :)

Up until a few years ago, I had no idea what reflexology was! I literally googled it because I saw it on my private health insurance form. Google results gave me info on the best training around at the time, (a level 5 diploma in practitioner reflexology).

When I started reading about it, I was absolutely fascinated! I signed up and got the last place on the course and instantly thought, this was meant to be!  Fast forward a few years plus a lot of hard work and here I am living the dream! I love my job! I never thought I would have ever heard myself saying that, when many moons ago, during 32 years in the aviation industry, I had contemplated many career changes, always in search of "finding me" and they hadn't come to much!

I have always been a determined soul, and sometimes, it hasn't always worked out, but that's all part of life experience isn't it! and it's the up's and downs of life that makes us who we are!

So here I am, "I found me" and I am being the best reflexologist I can be!

What's my value? I can't put a figure on it, I am still learning every day!

What's my worth? I am worthy of everything in abundance! (Louise Hay, you can heal your life, 1984)

So, What makes me Unique?

I believe it is my ability to connect to people with (dare I say it, yes, I do!) with positive healing energy! :)

This blog was inspired by a lady called Sally Bonnie @

Oh, and just before you go!

Two points I would like you to consider!

  1. If you have tried Reflexology before and you didn't take to it. Please do try it again, you must find the right therapist for you, we are all different!
  2. It is important to realise that if you have tried it before and you didn't feel great the day after, the fact that you had a response to the treatment is a good sign, and often, it means that you will respond well to further treatments. It really is worth sticking with! Please don't give up at the first hurdle.
